Addis Ababa, March 3, 2012 (WIC) - Co-chair of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, Louis Michel commends the speedy economic growth Ethiopia has registered.

Michel has come to Ethiopia to discuss the nation’s social, economic and political issues with higher Government officials.

He stated on Thursday that he has held important discussions with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Abadula Gemeda in connection with the current situation of the country.

Michel said he is amazed by the speedy economic growth being registered in Ethiopia, lauding the significant role the infrastructure has played for the growth.

Market oriented agriculture works being undertaken on small holding farmers’ land has also contributed to the economic advancement, he said. The trainings and technical supports that have been extended to farmers is an exemplary activity, Michel said.

According to ERTA, the Co-chair said he has been briefed by the Prime Minister on the objective of the resettlement in pastoralist and semi-pastoralist areas. Michel said the resettlement program in those areas is a right action benefiting the people.

He said Ethiopia is getting economic benefit by facilitating its suitable investment options to foreign investors, adding those who criticize the government of land grabbing need to come close with the government and know the facts.
